FDG Frankfurt 10 years ago

After having received our partners from the Friedrich Dessauer Gymnasium in Frankfurt at the end of January/beginning of February, it was our turn to go to Hesse for a week from 5 to 11 March.

16 high school students were hosted in the families of their pen pals, and were able to participate in the activities offered by the FDG, but also by the German high school students. They were accompanied by Frédéric Rousselle, who initiated the first contacts with the FDG in 2013 in the context of the centenary of the First World War, and by Adrien Leduc, History and Geography teacher.

The theme of our double meeting was of course the 60th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, but also many other areas: tolerance during the visit of the Anne Franck centre (Frankfurt is her birthplace) https://www.bs-anne-frank.de/, the history of Frankfurt, Germany and Franco-German relations at the Frankurt historical museum https://www.historisches-museum-frankfurt.de/en?language=de and the House of German History in Bonn https://www.hdg.de/haus-der-geschichte/. The train journey to Bonn was an opportunity to discover the Rhine Valley.
The controversial Bismark statue in Höchst and the Stolpersteine were also used to reflect on memory.

Other activities organised by our German hosts allowed some to discover the stadium of Eintracht Frankfurt, winner of the Europa League last year, to have a panoramic view of the city from the top of the Main Tower and for all to discover Frankfurt and Bonn.

We are already working with our German colleagues on the theme of our next meeting in 2023/2024
